Is the Sistine Chapel worth visiting?
Without question, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, is considered one of the greatest artistic achievements in human history. Seeing the Creation of Adam, the Prophets, and the Last Judgment in person, in the actual space for which they were created, is a completely different experience from seeing them in photographs. The last Sunday of each month, the Vatican Museums (and therefore the Sistine Chapel) are free. Walk-up tickets at the entrance are limited and the queues can be 2-3 hours long.
