Small group walking tour of Rome with Pantheon guided visit

The Pantheon is arguably the best-preserved ancient building in the world, it has been in continuous use for nearly 2,000 years, originally as a Roman temple and later as a Christian church. Its unreinforced concrete dome, with a diameter of 43.3 metres, was the largest in the world for over 1,300 years and remains a marvel of engineering. Entering and looking up at the oculus, the open eye in the centre of the dome, is one of the most memorable experiences in Rome.

Since 2023, the Pantheon requires a paid entry ticket for all visitors (€5 for standard entry, with some exceptions for worshippers), with timed entry slots. Our walking tour includes Pantheon access with your guide, who will explain the building's history, architectural innovation, and its significance as the burial place of Raphael and Italian kings.

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571–1610) was one of the most revolutionary painters in Western art history, pioneering a dramatic use of intense light-dark contrast (chiaroscuro) and realistic, sometimes raw depictions of religious subjects. Several of his most important works remain in their original church settings in Rome — the Contarelli Chapel in San Luigi dei Francesi and the Cerasi Chapel in Santa Maria del Popolo. Our walking tour visits these sites, letting you experience masterpieces like The Calling of Saint Matthew in situ.

Rome's Caravaggio route connects the churches and palaces where the painter lived, worked, and left his most important canvases. Key stops on our tour include Piazza Navona (near San Luigi dei Francesi, home to three Caravaggio masterpieces), the Pantheon neighbourhood where Caravaggio had his workshop, and the atmospheric medieval streets of central Rome that look much as they did in the early 17th century. It is an intimate encounter with Baroque Rome through the eyes of its most turbulent genius.

The historic centre, the area around the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo de' Fiori, and the Jewish Ghetto,  is Rome's most walkable and atmospheric district. Within a 15-minute walk you can move from ancient Roman monuments to Renaissance palaces to Baroque fountains to medieval Jewish quarters. This extraordinary concentration of history, all accessible on foot, is what makes Rome unlike any other city.
