Start this private day excursion with a pick-up from Palermo and enjoy a comfortable drive from there to Agrigento. Here you will meet your guide who will accompany you throughout the entire day, at the end of which you will end up being a Sicily’s origins history expert.

Once you arrive in Agrigento, as you look around, you will realize how this city is a place where Greek culture blends with the Sicilian one in a perfect harmonic way.  Although several dominations have alternated in the city over the centuries, like the Arabs and the Roman Empire, the Greek imprint is still clearly visible today. The emblematic example of Greek influence in this area is undoubtedly the Valley of the Temples, that you will be visiting accompanied by a charismatic and history enthusiastic private guide.

Walk through the world’s biggest archeological site

In the majestic Valle dei Templi there are twelve temples dedicated to the Greek gods, built in doric style, whose constructions date back to a time period from the 5th to the 2nd century B.C. Despite having such ancient origins, this valley contains the best-preserved Greek ruins of Italy, being one of the best examples of Hellenic architecture of all time.

As you enter the archaeological site that has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1997, you will see The Temple of Hera (or Temple of Juno), dedicated to the wife of Zeus, burned by the Carthaginians in 406, it had to be reconstituted; the Temple of Concord, the best preserved temple in the entire valley. The site is incredibly preserved thanks to the fact that the site was consecrated as a Christian basilica in the 6th century AD, so it has been relatively protected; the Temple of Heracles, the oldest temple on the site of which only 8 columns remain, the Temple of Zeus Olympius: it was destroyed by the Carthaginians before it was completed, and much more..! In addition to the temples, there are also Greek and Roman necropolis, residential areas, the tomb of Theron, and many other remains waiting to be visited.
